How to Use

This grammar is important to you for making negative sentence. As usually in each language, sometimes we need to make negative sentence.

How to Conjugate

I divided it into 2 parts, first is ます形 and second is dictionary form.

ます形

ます形 is the polite form how to express negative sentence in Japanese. You can use this to someone who you don't know, new people, or your teacher, your boss that indicate the grade is higher than you.

    1. First, remember  about ます形 form.

はしります = to run
のみます = to drink
かきます= to write
ます = to see, to watch, to look
あるきます = to walk
ます = to come
たべます = to eat
etc

    2. Change す to せん or ますto ません (It's depends on you)

はしりません = do not run
のみません = do not drink
かきません = do not write
ません = do not see, do not watch, do not look
あるきません = do not walk
ません = do not come
たべません = do not eat

Literally it means "not" like as "not drink" etc, but I think it is strange to translate roughly, so I make it naturally.

る形

Next is how to conjugate る形. る形 is the impolite form how to express negative sentence in Japanese. You can use this to your friend, your college or someone who the grade is lower than you. Ok, I will give you how to conjugate る形. I divided into three parts, that is first verb, second verb, and third verb.

First Verb

1. Remember the last hiragana!

= to speak
= to wait
= to write, to draw
およ = to swim
はな = to speak
あそ = to play
= to read

2. Change the last hiragana!

 = change う to  わない = いわない = do not tell, do not speak, do not say
はしる = change  to  はしらない = do not run.
 = change  to たない  またない = do not wait
 = change  to かない かかない = do not write
およ = change  to がない およがない = do not swim
はな = change  to さない はなさない = do not speak
あそ = change  to ばない あそばない = do not play
 = change  to まない よまない = do not read

Remember the key of change is the last hiragana, the you must change the vocal into "a", you can see again, then add ない except う.

Second Verb

Its usually simple, you drop or erase る then add ない.

たべ = たべない

しらべ = しらべ ない

*み = み ない

*おき = おきない

*き = きない

*しんじ = しんじない

Third Verb

There are する and くる in third verb, so you must remember it.

する = しない = do not do
